Sacred Heart Academy
Corner of Greene & Hughes (demolished)
Sacred Heart Academy was founded in September, 1946 by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to offer classes for young women seeking a strong college-preparatory education in the Catholic tradition. The school was established by Sr. M. Antonine Signorelli. The school started out with 17 students on Greene St. in the provincial house of the Missionary Zelatrices of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MZSJ). Increased yearly enrollment and expansion led to a move to the current Hamden, CT location.
